How to make a wedding photo QR code with Google Drive or Google Photos
Updated by Scan & Snap
Create a Google Photos shared album, or a Google Drive folder, turn on sharing, copy the link, and turn that link into a QR code with any free QR generator. It costs nothing extra. The catch is that guests generally need a Google account to add photos, so some of them may not.
Using a Google Photos shared album
- In Google Photos, create a new album and give it your wedding's name.
- Open the sharing options, create a link, and make sure collaboration is on, so that other people can add photos.
- Copy the link.
- Paste it into a QR code generator and download the image.
- Scan the printed code with someone else's phone, and try adding a photo.
Using a Google Drive folder
- In Google Drive, create a folder.
- Share it so that anyone with the link can edit. Viewers can't upload.
- Copy the link and turn it into a QR code in the same way.
Be careful with this one: anyone with an editor link can also rename, move or delete what others have uploaded, and the link could be passed on.
The problems to expect
- Accounts: guests generally have to be signed in to a Google account to add anything. Older relatives, and iPhone users without an account, may give up.
- Control: the Drive method gives every guest editing rights.
- Experience: the Drive app or website may prompt guests in ways they don't expect, especially on phones.
- Storage: check how your own Google storage is affected, and how much is left, before the day.
When to use something else
If most of your guests already use Google, this method is hard to beat on price, and has no 7-day limit like our free plan. If you have a mix of guests and want no accounts at all, a dedicated QR code photo album is simpler for them. See how the options compare.
